Everything You Ever Wanted to Know about the Livingston Riparian Zone

Let’s Go Outside – Making Connections
Sally Evans, environmental educator and longtime TAEE leader and member will lead a series of quick activities that can be done outside of the classroom. These engaging activities can be used to enhance a lesson, present a concept, build positive experiences, assess learning, provide data, and /or apply math skills to a real world situation.
GIS/GPS
Rose Banzhaf from Richardson ISD’s Environmental Studies Center will introduce participants to GIS mapping software and GPS data gathering. This session will include both indoor and outdoor activities.
Leading a Nature Hike: Enhancing Wonder and Discovery
John Donley of the Sequin Outdoor Learning Center will share techniques that inject bits of magic and mystery into a hike. He will also address the art of distinguishing a “teachable moment” from a distraction, as well as the art of phrasing good questions and responses.
Scouting for Animals
Join Jim Parry from YMCA’s Collin County Adventure Camp to learn about local wildlife and what to look for in the field. Take this knowledge outside to explore the forest and riparian zone for animal signs.
Aquatic Invertebrates
Join Jeff Henson, TPWD fisheries biologist, collecting, identifying, and learning more about the diversity of aquatic invertebrates in Lake Livingston.
